The addict who is going through substance abuse will not be able to understand that he is truly suffering from a problem. All that he cares about is that he gets daily dose of substance by hook or by crook. The temporary pleasure that he gets from substance is enough to make him feel better from all the stress and problems that he is going through in his life.

When an addict is recommended to join a drug rehab center, he may go through numerous stages of denial before he admits that he is ruining his life because of drug or alcohol abuse. Here are the stages of denial that a addicts goes through:

Stage 1

The addict feels that he is consuming a very low amount of drugs/alcohol and he is not addicted to it. He underestimates the seriousness of the addiction problem he is suffering from. In most situations, it has been observed that the addict lacks knowledge about the disease he is or he may suffer from due to addiction.

Stage 2

The addict starts making use of excuses or come up with stories to justify his addiction. During this stage of denial, the addict may say sentences like “If you had similar problems like mine, even you would have taken up drugs”

Stage 3

When the family members and close ones of the addict becomes do not take the excuses made by the addict seriously, he can become more aggressive or violent or defensive by blaming others for his addiction instead of accepting taking the responsibility of addiction on himself. For instance, if the marriage of an alcoholic is on the verge of separation due to his drinking habits, he may blame his wife for the problem.

The only way to overcome the stages of denial is intervention by seeking assistance from an addiction treatment center. A drug rehab or alcohol rehab center will do a good job in freeing the habits of addiction and restoring his normal life.

Since decades, twelve-step program is considered to be one of the most effective tools in treating addictions such as drug addiction and alcohol addiction. The program was established by Alcoholics Anonymous during the 1930s.

Here are the points that are involved in the twelve-step program:

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.

Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

The twelve-step program helps the addict in many ways like making him realize that he is going through substance addiction problem, how to become considerate and develop self-control, helping others in knowing and practicing the program, etc. The twelve-step program can be performed in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers. After recovering from the addiction through the twelve-step program, the patient becomes confident in facing the challenges of the life.

Recently, people are finding that the 12 steps are not that effective. If you are looking for a non 12 step rehab that will help you overcome your addiction, than give us a call.

If you are on a road to recovery from addiction of substance abuse, and are soon planning to rejoin your work or look for a new job, the thought of getting your life back to normalcy seems promising. However, it may not be that easy as it sounds.

Here are some things that you need to keep in mind when you think you are fit enough to return to work after you are done with drug rehabilitation.

For A Recovering Addict Who Is Looking For a New Job

* If a recovering addict is not able to find a job, he should not feel disappointed and incorrectly assume job-related rejections as a way of the world rejecting him because of drug addiction past, negative records etc. This way he may lose his confidence and go into a relapse mode.

If you are in such a situation, do not worry; some day or the other you will get a new job if you are willing to put in sheer dedication, perseverance and commitment. Job-related problems are temporary. Having a positive mindset will surely help you walk this painful path with comfort. You should try to cover your negative points by grooming yourself well, dressing up well, using positive body language while walking or talking to people. You should be punctual when you are going for a job interview. Be yourself and forget the fact that you had any such addiction. Soon people will be talking good things about you and things will start working in your favor.

For A Recovering Addict Who Is Looking to Resume His Existing Job

* If a recovering addict is rejoining his existing job, he can face a special set of problems. He may feel or notice that his colleagues do not behave with him properly, gossip about him, look down upon him and even the chance of growing in the company may seem closed. Such fears can also lead the recovering addict to get back to his old habit.

If you are in such a situation, you should make yourself realize that you have left your habit which had affected your performance at work. Now that you have overcome your addiction, you can keep a goal of achieving progress at your work. Soon your colleagues will realize your value and behave normally with you.

All kinds of drugs have become very popular among young teens and all the way through to adults. There are so many different kinds of drugs that people use and take its ridiculous.
There are many different reasons why people start to get addicted to drugs. One reason is that they are told by someone else to just try it once, that doing it once won’t hurt. This is a lie. If you try a drug once, you will then also think it is okay to do it twice and then soon enough you will start to think that its fine to do it in general. The next thing you know is that you are now hooked on drugs. Another reason people get addicted to drugs is that they are very stressed and they want something that will help them get through their day, or something to make them not feel the pain. There are more reasons that people do drugs, but those were just a couple of them that are common.

All throughout the country there are drug detox centers. A drug detox center is a place that is made for drug addicts to get off of drugs and to get their bodies back into a good physical condition. At a drug detox center an addict stops using drugs and gets his body healthy again, since the drugs do a lot of harm to the body inside and out. Detox centers are very important in getting the addict off of drugs. It is very hard for an addict to stop taking drugs on his own. Detox centers make it a lot easier for the addict and they are an environment that is stress free.

When people are addicted to drugs they need other people to help them get their lives back. Friends or family need to do a drug intervention. A drug intervention is when you have an addict who can’t stop himself from using drugs so someone else, like a friend, a family member or someone else intervenes and gets the addict some help. Drug addiction intervention is something that needs to get done. There are so many drug addicts out there that just need help. They have gone beyond the point of helping themselves. Sometimes a drug addict has gone so far off the rails that he won’t accept your help. If you really care about the addict you just have to be persist and keep helping and encouraging the addict to go to a detox center.

Detox centers are very important for an addict to stop doing drugs and to get his body clean. But another very important step in getting a drug addict totally off drugs is, handling what caused him to do drugs in the first place. For some addicts, its that they were too stressed and for others its because they didn’t like their life and wanted something to keep it light and not so overwhelming. There are many different reasons people start using and becoming addicted to drugs. When trying to help an addict stop using drugs and get clean one has to also help the addict figure out how to overcome problems in life without the use of drugs. One has to really make sure that the addict now sees that drugs aren’t the solution and that handling the problems makes more sense than running from them.

Drug intervention is something that needs to get done. Drugs and drug addicts put many peoples’ lives at stake. One step to making this world a better and happier place is by getting rid of drugs and by helping drug addicts get their lives back.
